Kelvin Kirwa is a young boy from Eldoret City in Kenya that has had muscular dystrophy since age ten. Living with the condition, his everyday activities were hard for him. He fought to move arms and legs, as simple things needed much energy. His father, Christopher Kirwa, was searching for treatment that may give him more strength. Different options were tried by them over many years, but none really showed good results. Yet family keep holding on to hope.
Christopher found Mayom Hospital in India while searching online. He read about Dr Singh and the hospital’s stem cell therapy programme. He believed this approach could help Kelvin improve. The family made the decision to travel to India and begin the treatment.
When Kelvin arrived at Mayom Hospital, the medical team welcomed him with care. Doctors did a complete check-up with the purpose of finding out about his state. They examined muscle power, looked at his motions, and observed how he does daily jobs. The team created a clear treatment plan and explained every step to the family. This helped Kelvin and his father stay confident as they started the journey.
The doctors began the first stage of stem cell therapy with a muscle injection. This treatment targeted Kelvin’s weak muscles directly. Right after the injection, the physiotherapy team guided him through light exercises. These exercises helped his muscles respond to the stem cells. Kelvin worked hard and followed every instruction from the team. The doctors monitored him closely and noted how his body reacted.
The second stage of treatment came soon after. The team gave Kelvin an intravenous stem cell injection. This allowed the stem cells to move through his bloodstream and support his whole body. Not long after the second injection, the team began to see improvement.
Kelvin gained better control over his arms and legs. He lifted those with fewer effort and moved them more smoothly. He learned to sit upright without assistance, which is important for him. He used his hand in a better way at meals, also he began eating in a more easier way. These changes showed clear signs that the treatment was working well.
As Kelvin saw progress, he became more active in physiotherapy sessions. He tried new movements without fear. He practised small tasks like picking up objects or lifting his arms higher. Every day, he demonstrated greater strength and more self-esteem. The physiotherapy group made changes in his exercises due to the improvement he had, and they cheered him on in each step.
Christopher was having great happiness watching his son progressing forward. For years he has waited for this sort of change to come. He expressed gratitude to Dr Singh and Dr Prashant, along with the whole Mayom Hospital team, because of their hard work and support. The family felt respected and received guidance all during the whole process.
The medical team believes Kelvin will continue to improve with ongoing care. Stem cell therapy is working in stages, and Kelvin’s first results are giving very strong hope. As time passes, and together with physiotherapy with follow-ups, he is able to get to a better movement level and strength.
Before departing from India, the Kirwa family showed appreciation for hospital staff. They thanked doctors, nurses and also therapists for all their dedication and for kindness. The family expressed hope of Kelvin’s complete healing and said they will keep praying for more improvement.
Kelvin's success story shows medical team effort, improved therapy, and family hope are changing patient life. His own journey is giving inspiration for families experiencing muscular dystrophy. It shows that with the right support and continuous work, actual positive change is possible in life.
